Topic suggestions for the blog?

I am not suffering (yet) from Fred Wilson’s blogger’s block, but his call for blog topics is a good idea. What presentation design issues would you like me to discuss on these pages? Let me know in the comments.

Consider posting about "content design", i.e. structure and flow. This might include how message/header on page relates to other content on page.

Hi Jan,

I'd love to hear your thoughts on walking decks. More and more clients are now preferring shorter, smaller and often 1-1 meetings without a projected presentation, but rather a printed, walking deck to be gone over together side by side.

There are definitely different best practices involved with on-screen decks, printed leave-behinds and guided walking decks. It's the last though that seems to garner the least amount of discussion.

What are your thoughts regarding presentation templates - what should they include?

I spend a lot of time teaching presentation design to middle school students (8th grade) They are addicted to bullet points and will use them even when told not to. I model good design. I create about two to three sometimes five unique presentation a week. do you have any advice for breaking their bad habits?

Presentation templates are all sized for 4:3 on-screen shows. I create all my slides in widescreen 16:9 ratio. Since there are no widescreen templates I apply rule of thirds to design my layouts. As HD Monitors replace projectors, 4:3 just doesn't seem to make much sense. What are your thoughts on widescreen vs 4:3?

If color were music, I'd have a tin eye. I'd like to better understand which colors best go together and why they go together.

Thank you for putting the question. I would like to see more about technical and engineering presentations. The points for having great ones ...

I'm an IT consultant and many of our presentations include metrics, lots of bullet points and technical details, etc. I'd love to read a post addressing how to make presentations like that better.

How would you present a flow chart that has more steps then would reasonably fit on one slide, or would you even put a flow chart into a presentation?
